Science Class

Hi girls,

In this unit of science we are going to be learning about electricity! In this lesson we will learn about where electricity came from and who made/discovered it!

This weeks assignment is to write a 300 word biography about Benjamin Franklin. You must include a brief history about him, how he invented electricity, and what happened after. This is to be written on draft writing paper then published on a word document and sent to academyfordolls@gmail.com . Please include your name and class in the document as well as a picture of Benjamin Franklin. This needs to be sent to me by the 20th December. 

English Class

Hi girls,

This term in english we are going to focus on grammar and spelling, we will divide the term into 2 halves. We will be doing a revision of grammar and then have a big test and then you will have spelling tests each week and a big test at the very end of the term.

This week, you have to tell me where punctuation marks should be used in a sentence. French Class

In language studies you will be learning some basic french words. We are going to start with weather and season and then do food and animals.

After-school Swimming Class

Hi girls,

This term we will be working on swimming technique, and learning about everyone on the team.

This week in swimming you will need to make up a few questions to answer about your favourite swimmer and then answer them. This should include a picture, name, questions and answers, your name and class on the top of the page and a title. After-School Reading Groups Class

Hi girls,

Today we are doing our reading groups for the first time! Over the next two weeks, we will be reading books we are reading by ourselves, then I will pick a book for everyone to read, and I will tell you a week in advance what the book is. Lets get started!

This week you are going to be reading a chapter of any book, and writing a summary about it. This is to be completed on draft writing paper and then on a word document. Maths Class

Hi girls,

This unit for maths is going to be a unit about multiplication! Today just to start of the unit we will do a easy/medium multiplication quiz. Each week we will focus on two sets of times tables. 

We are going to do the 4 times and 5 times tables this week. The quizzes will get harder and harder as the  unit goes on and at the end we will have a big test for your final results that will include all times tables. Everybody's results for the quizzes will be posted after the week is over on the main page. The link to the test is here. This is to be completed by December 19th. 

Home Economics Class

Hi girls,

In HE this term we are going to be learning about cooking and perhaps even doing some! I am going to really enjoy teaching you HE this term! There will only be small tasks each week and a two-part task on the last week of term that will act as an assignment.

This weeks assignment will be to analyse this Traditional Scone Recipe write out your own recipe in the same format. This is to include all the things that are on the original page, name and class. This is to be completed on draft writing paper then published on a Word document and sent to academyfordolls@gmail.com. This needs to be completed by December 19th 

Music Class

Hi girls,

In music this term we will be doing some music activity booklets! These are quite simple and easy and you will have a test on the booklet at the end of the term. For this weeks task you will need to download the pdf file here, then you will need to write the question and your answers on draft writing paper then a Word document make sure to write the number of the question as well as the same number for the answer that matches. Please only do Worksheet 4 and Worksheet 6, and skip any questions that require the hard copy of the book.You may do this in any format as long as it is on word and draft writing paper. When you are finished please send the pdf AND your completed word document to academyfordolls@gmail.com. I will expect an email if these instructions are too confusing. This needs to be completed by December 19th.

Was the first Norman King, reigning from 1066 until his death in 1087. The descendant of Viking raiders, he had been Duke of Normandy since 1035. After a long struggle to establish his power, by 1060 his hold on Normandy was secure, and he launched the Norman conquest of England in 1066. The rest of his life was marked by struggles to consolidate his hold over England and his continental lands and by difficulties with his eldest son. William's final years were marked by difficulties in his continental domains, troubles with his eldest son, and threatened invasions of England by the Danes. In 1086 William ordered the compilation of the Domesday Book, a survey listing all the landholders in England along with their holdings. William died in September 1087 while leading a campaign in northern France, and was buried in Caen. His reign in England was marked by the construction of castles, the settling of a new Norman nobility on the land, and change in the composition of the English clergy. He did not try to integrate his various domains into one empire, but instead continued to administer each part separately. William's lands were divided after his death: Normandy went to his eldest son, Robert, and his second surviving son, William, received England.

King Harold II of England is defeated by the Norman forces of William the Conqueror at the Battle of Hastings, fought on Senlac Hill, seven miles from Hastings, England. At the end of the bloody, all-day battle, Harold was killed–shot in the eye with an arrow, according to legend–and his forces were destroyed. He was the last Anglo-Saxon king of England. Just over two weeks before, William, the duke of Normandy, had invaded England, claiming his right to the English throne. In 1051, William is believed to have visited England and met with his cousin Edward the Confessor, the childless English king. According to Norman historians, Edward promised to make William his heir. On his deathbed, however, Edward granted the kingdom to Harold Godwine, head of the leading noble family in England and more powerful than the king himself. In January 1066, King Edward died, and Harold Godwine was proclaimed King Harold II. William immediately disputed his claim. On September 28, 1066, William landed in England at Pevensey, on Britain’s southeast coast, with approximately 7,000 troops and cavalry. Seizing Pevensey, he then marched to Hastings, where he paused to organize his forces. On October 13, Harold arrived near Hastings with his army, and the next day William led his forces out to give battle. After his victory at the Battle of Hastings, William marched on London and received the city’s submission. On Christmas Day, 1066, he was crowned the first Norman king of England, in Westminster Abbey, and the Anglo-Saxon phase of English history came to an end. French became the language of the king’s court and gradually blended with the Anglo-Saxon tongue to give birth to modern English. William I proved an effective king of England, and the “Domesday Book,” a great census of the lands and people of England, was among his notable achievements. Upon the death of William I in 1087, his son, William Rufus, became William II, the second Norman king of England.

William was the first Norman King of England, reigning from 1066 until death in 1087. He was the son of unmarried Robert I, Duke of Normandy by Robert’s mistress Herleva.

William married Matilda of Flanders in 1050’s. He built a large fleet and invaded England in September 1066, decisively defeating and killing Harold at the Battle of Hastings on 14th October 1066. William was crowned King on Christmas day 1066 in London.

My Favourite Recipe!

My favorite recipe is called Jewish honey cake. I love this cake because it relates really well to my family’s history and religion. I is also delicious with orange icing and works well as a birthday cake!

The recipe:

Ingredients:

• 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
• 1 tablespoon baking powder
• 1 teaspoon baking soda
• 1/2 teaspoon salt
• 4 teaspoons ground cinnamon
• 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
• 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
• 1 cup vegetable oil
• 1 cup honey
• 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
• 1/2 cup brown sugar
• 3 eggs
• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
• 1 cup warm coffee or strong tea
• 1/2 cup fresh orange juice

Preparation:

I like this cake best baked in a 9-inch angel food cake pan, but you can also make it in a 10-inch tube or bundt cake pan, a 9 by 13-inch sheetpan, or three 8 by 4 1/2-inch loaf pans.

Preheat the oven to 350°F. Lightly grease the pan(s). For tube and angel food pans, line the bottom with lightly greased parchment paper. For gift honey cakes, I use "cake collars" (available from Sweet Celebrations) designed to fit a specific loaf pan. These give the cakes an appealing, professional look.

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and spices. Make a well in the center and add the oil, honey, sugars, eggs, vanilla, coffee, orange juice, and rye or whisky.

Using a strong wire whisk or an electric mixer on slow speed, combine the ingredients well to make a thick batter, making sure that no ingredients are stuck to the bottom of the bowl.

Spoon the batter into the prepared pan(s) and sprinkle the top of the cake(s) evenly with the almonds. Place the cake pan(s) on 2 baking sheets stacked together and bake until the cake springs back when you touch it gently in the center. For angel and tube cake pans, bake for 60 to 70 minutes; loaf cakes, 45 to 55 minutes. For sheet-style cakes, the baking time is 40 to 45 minutes. This is a liquidy batter and, depending on your oven, it may need extra time. Cake should spring back when gently pressed.

Let the cake stand for 15 minutes before removing it from the pan. Then invert it onto a wire rack to cool completely.
